Sarah Mullen is a busy lady. She runs a not-for-profit social enterprise in Bournville called the Busy Parents Network and also organises the Bournville Children’s Festival, which is now Birmingham’s only book festival for children.
Bournville Community Hub
If that wasn’t enough Sarah and her team of volunteers have recently launched the Bournville Community Hub on Bournville Village Green. Read about it here because it’s a terrific initiative and totally in keeping with the original Cadbury spirit.
As part of their offering to the local community, Sarah has been planning a number of Arts Evenings to help raise precious funds for the new Community Hub.
Last month Sarah got in touch to say she’d read and enjoyed my book, Beatrice The Cadbury Heiress Who Gave Away Her Fortune, and to ask if I’d be willing to come to the Community Hub one evening to be interviewed by Bournville resident John Dolan OBE. John used to be the Head of Birmingham Central Library and remains a passionate advocate of books, reading and libraries.
Not one to miss an opportunity to talk about Beatrice’s fascinating and complex life I said yes immediately! John, I’m told, is a very good interviewer (he’s interviewed Melvyn Bragg, no less) and I’m really looking forward to a very convivial evening in his company.
