Gosh, it’s been a busy year of writing behind the scenes (news update coming very soon) and then popping out into the world to give my Cadbury Heritage Talks to around thirty amazing audiences. I can honestly say I have enjoyed every single event this year! There’s nothing like the buzz of meeting and connecting with different people around a topic of shared interest. So here’s a reminder of the two final events of this year before I hang up my speaking boots for December.
On Monday 27th November I’ll be making a return visit to Kings Norton History Society in the stunning Saint Nicolas’ Place (Satnav postcode B38 8RU). This time I can’t wait to share the true life story of Beatrice Cadbury: The heiress who gave away her fortune. My talk is illustrated with some great – and unseen – family photos. Doors open at 7 pm and I’ll be kicking off at 7.30 pm.
Then the following night –Tuesday 28 November – I’ll be hot-footing it over to the Gunmakers Arms, a real ale pub just on the edge of the city not far from Snow Hill station. (You can find the Gunmakers Arms at 93 Bath Street, B4 6HG. 0121 238 5197.) I’ve never spoken in a pub with such a rich heritage of its own before now. It’ll be a wonderfully convivial atmosphere in which to share the real life stories of women working in the Cadbury chocolate factory during World War One – stories that inspired my novel, Comforts for the Troops. So come and join me as I delve into the Bournville archives to explore the women’s working lives and their efforts on the Home Front.
This is a ticketed event through Eventbrite, with a small charge (£1.66), and I’m told booking is advisable as places are now limited.
I’ll be bringing copies of my books to both events in case anyone wants to buy one for a Christmas gift or just to treat themselves, and I’m always happy to sign and dedicate them, if desired. But I am getting low on stock for Comforts for the Troops – darn! – so if I run out I’ll do my best to get some more in before Christmas.
